El Submarine Cable Map se actualiza, y en 2 a?os tenemos casi 200 cables marinos nuevos de Red.

En la ¨¦poca actual, los smartphones, el 4G y las redes WiFi han conseguido que al pensar en Internet veamos una Red sin hilos, sin cables, todo movido por la magia del WiFi. Pero detr¨¢s de esto hay cables f¨ªsicos destinados a proporcionar el servicio b¨¢sico. Miles y miles de kil¨®metros de cables f¨ªsicos y palpables que interconectan al mundo entero y permiten que navegues por Internet ahora mismo, que juegues online desde la consola o que tengas un coche inteligente con Google Maps gui¨¢ndote y se?alando el camino.
Los cables oce¨¢nicos que conectan al mundo
Y todos ellos los tienes reunidos aqu¨ª, en la web Sumbarine Cable Map, que se va actualizando para mostrar en un mapamundi el nuevo cableado que va apareciendo y el viejo que se va retirando. Todas las l¨ªneas de colores que veis en el mapa entre pa¨ªses y continentes son cables, normalmente de gigantes de la Red como Facebook o Google. Casi un mill¨®n de kil¨®metros de fibra ¨®ptica que suman m¨¢s del 95% del tr¨¢fico mundial total de voz y datos que se usa cada d¨ªa, as¨ª que imaginad lo que pasar¨ªa si esos cables se rompieran.
De hecho son cables, pueden romperse y se rompen, a veces por la acci¨®n del hombre -sabotajes-, accidentes fortuitos -barcos pesqueros, anclas que se enganchan- y otras por el simple factor de la fauna marina y / o eventos geol¨®gicos como maremotos, volcanes o desplazamiento de las placas continentales, algo normal en casos como un cable de fibra ¨®ptica en Jap¨®n que est¨¢ a 8.000 metros de profundidad, casi el Monte Everest hacia abajo.
M¨¢s y m¨¢s cables
Es curioso comprobar la evoluci¨®n constante que este gigantesco tendido que conecta al mundo tiene. En 2017 hab¨ªa un total de 293 cables los que cruzan los distintos mares y oc¨¦anos del mundo a profundidades abismales que nos hacen pensar en films como Abyss de James Cameron. Pero a d¨ªa de hoy, en plena segunda mitad de 2019, los cables que conectan Internet de forma global son 454, lo que significa un aumento de 163 cables nuevos en un per¨ªodo de 2 a?os. Un ritmo que como siga creciendo de manera exponencial no tardar¨¢ en pasar de los 1.000 cables para el 2021.
Los hay de apenas 151 kil¨®metros, y los hay de m¨¢s de 20.000 km como el cable que conecta Asia con Estados Unidos. Y sin ellos b¨¢sicamente no existir¨ªa el Internet que conocemos y al que nos conectamos y navegamos a la alta velocidad disponible hoy.
